The Waiter Watches the Night Creature

This is a serious favorite. Not because it is a great photo, but just because I was lucky enough to get anything at all. This was say 11pm, dry crisp night and I’m stomping up and down Cours Mirabeau taking night shots. Aix-en-Provence as all of this series are (http://photoblog.sarahsmiles.com). I was bored. I had my tripod for a change, and the night was so still and crisp. I was staying at Grand Hôtel Nègre-Coste (Grand Hotel Negre-Coste just incase the accents get eaten). And I think this is looking inside Les Deux Garçons (I can check if anyone cares, but with this much info, they all look the same to me.) So, I set up and start clicking. And the bugger’s just staring back at me! There’s no way he can see me I’m sure. I’m standing in the shadow of a big plane tree. I remember that because I didn’t want the street lights shining into the camera. He was just watching ghosts, and I happened to be in the way.
The building has left the building…

I love this old haunt. But it is gone now. I was looking for my photos of its dissolution, but I found this old one instead. The building is an old factory in downtown Lyon. If you read my chapter fragment, I walk right past it just before I get to the train station. JKE and I did this shoot with Maas and CT a while back. I’ve posted this in different formats before… but perhaps not this way.
Duh!

Here’s the little boy again. In the town square, oblivious to everything but sleep and his bun.
